My name is Nazanin but most people call me Naz, thus the #notthatnaz. I am passionate about nonfiction narrative, documentary filmmaking, and education. My professional experience is informed by years of hands-on work developing and executing ideas for documentaries, short films, and corporate videos. In film, I tell moving stories that strive to make a difference in the viewers’ lives. In teaching, I empower and inspire my students to do the same.

Author’s Bio

Naz is an Iranian-American writer and filmmaker. Her writing appears in publications such as Pidgeonholes, Ruminate, MayDay, (mac)ro(mic), and Lost Balloon. She is a 2022 Best Microfiction nominee. Previously, her translations have been published in Farsi. She is an Associate Editor at SugarSugarSalt and an Assistant Prose Editor for The ASP Bulletin. Naz holds an MFA in Writing and an MA in Media Arts. She lives in Durham, NC, and is an assistant professor at UNC-Chapel Hill’s Hussman School of Journalism and Media. She is currently working on a memoir.
